Become a featured performer for the Maryland Science Center and represent the institution in front of audiences across the state.
You will work with a team to present dynamic science programming for elementary school students across the state of Maryland and Mid-Atlantic region. We are looking for performers that can present scripted shows, classroom programs, and extemporaneous presentations. Performers will drive equipment to and from schools, set up sets, perform 45 minute assemblies, strike sets, and maintain program supplies. They may also be invited to deliver other performances, lead summer camps at the museum, and other duties as assigned.
Candidates will need to be available at least two days per week, with some evening and weekend hours to be expected.
Preferred Education & Experience
- BA/BS preferred, or several years of experience in informal education/performance/STEM instruction may be substituted for education
- Theater performance, Children’s Theater especially preferred
- At least one year experience in informal education
- Basic understanding of science concepts, including biology, chemistry, and physics
Basic Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a background check and FBI Fingerprinting
- Must have a valid Maryland Driver’s License and clean driving record
- Must adhere to strict safety protocols
- Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs
Hourly Rate:
- $18.00 / hour
This employee normally may perform some of the work of a senior level position in the process of gaining knowledge and experience necessary for advancement and may also perform some of the work in a lower-rated position when required. Normal duties and responsibilities include assistance to other employees.
