Solstice is the Maryland Science Center’s annual fundraiser celebrating its mission.
Each year, on the Saturday closest to the Summer Solstice, friends of the Science Center gather to recognize the important work that takes place each and every day at the Science Center and out in the community across the entire State of Maryland. This year, Solstice will be held at the Maryland Science Center on June 19 from noon – 5:00pm. All ages are welcome – this is an event for the whole family! Solstice guests will be able to enjoy our signature brand of science education featuring unique, authentic experiences you can only get at the Maryland Science Center. In addition, our Solstice guests will be able to enjoy:
- Picnic on the roof, complete with a DJ
- Special IMAX showings just for our Solstice guests in the St. John Properties IMAX Theater
- Sun spotting in the Crosby Ramsey Memorial Observatory (weather permitting)
- Special science demonstrations
All Solstice guests – adult and child (age 3 and older) – will need Solstice tickets or be on their company’s Solstice guest list. There are no public Solstice tickets for sale this year. Everyone over 2 years of age must wear a mask at all times while in the building. Reduced fee parking is available at three local lots – see www.mdsci.org/parking for additional information. Solstice guests will enter via our Key Highway entrance. We will also be open to the public on Saturday, June 19 – they will enter via our Harbor entrance. This page will be updated as additional information is available. This will be included on the ticket, as well as update emails.
Proceeds from Solstice support the Science Center’s long-standing free admission policy for Maryland students.
For over forty years all Maryland school students visiting on a field trip have received free admission to the Science Center’s exhibit halls. All proceeds from Solstice help underwrite the free admission policy and help ensure that future generations of students will continue to visit for free on a field trip. Solstice is one night of scientific celebration but the mission of the Science Center is the reason we gather. Now, more than ever, science matters.
