Youth Volunteer Opportunities
For those ages 15 – 17, MSC offers seasonal youth volunteer opportunities each Spring and Summer. Gain new skills and explore potential career paths, while contributing to the Science Center’s mission to provide the best of informal, hands-on STEM education. All potential youth volunteers must complete and return a Youth Volunteer Application, indicating what program they’re interested in, along with other program-specific documents, and should be prepared for a potential interview.
Youth volunteer applications for MSC’s annual Camp-In are now open! Camp-In volunteers serve as assistants during the Maryland Science Center’s overnight Camp-In program. Volunteers do not stay overnight; they complete their sessions on Friday or Saturday evenings between 5:00pm and 11:00pm. Volunteers help with check-in, organizing take-home bags, and science-based workshop activities. Volunteers earn up to 6 hours of service credit for each event. We ask that volunteers commit to at least 4 evenings, though more shifts are available. The Camp-In Program runs late January 2023 through early May 2023.
Use the link below to fill out an application. Please e-mail your completed application to the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteers@mdsci.org. If you have any questions, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, by email at volunteers@mdsci.org or by phone at 410-779-1627.
All youth volunteers must:
- Work well with children and teenagers
- Possess excellent communication skills
- Have the ability to follow directions
- Be comfortable interacting with the public
- Be adaptable to changing situations
- Work well independently and in a team atmosphere
