Guest Services Positions – part-time

Energetic, friendly people wanted for employment!

Are you outgoing, willing to learn, with good communication skills and comfortable interacting with the general public? If so, the Maryland Science Center is looking for you. A variety of positions are available for individuals interested in spending time in a fast-paced, engaging environment.

Applicants must have completed high school or have a GED. All applicants must be able to work both independently and as a part of a team. All positions will require working weekends and holidays. All positions are seasonal.

Lobby Ambassador

Welcoming guests to the Maryland Science Center. Scanning tickets, making sure all pre purchased ticketing transactions are complete. Directs guests to desired venues or event space; watches for correct color wrist band on all guests; verifies readmit guests are legitimate and have obtained proper admission. You must be observant and able to multi-task and able to communicate with our diverse group of visitors and members. 

Operator/Reservationist

Operates Switchboard, taking reservations for various programs. Prepares daily operating information and distributes to appropriate departments. Booking process will include answering telephone calls and inquiries, mailing out all related paperwork for programs, contacting guests regarding programming needs.

Store Clerk

Providing excellent customer service while operating a cash register and making change accurately. Stock and price product, straighten and maintain work areas. Ensuring that all merchandise is displayed on the sales floor in adequate quantities to meet customer demand. This position requires standing for long periods and you must be able to lift at least 40lbs

Store Keyholder

Providing excellent customer service while operating a cash register and making change accurately. Stock and price product, straighten and maintain work areas. Ensuring that all merchandise is displayed on the sales floor in adequate quantities to meet customer demand. This position includes the opening and closing the Science Store. You will be responsible for closing out registers and performing daily audits. Prior retail keyholder, retail supervisory, cash-handling, and customer service experience required. This position requires standing for long periods and you must be able to lift and or move at least 40lbs.

Ticket Agent

Selling tickets and memberships to visitors using a computerized ticketing system and able to make change accurately. Presenting a positive first impression to those visiting MSC and assisting to make their visit more enjoyable. Providing general information regarding the happenings, exhibits and special events of MSC. Ensuring customer satisfaction by answering general questions and resolving complaints courteously. Must be able to communicate with our diverse group of visitors and members. 

All positions require:

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service to museum visitors
  • Demonstrate good judgement, personal responsibility, and productive impact
  • Ability to pass background check or fingerprinting
  • Attending training sessions as part of the on-boarding process
  • All hired employees must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination
