Take a break screens in favor of in-person, hands-on STEM workshops at MSC!
Fridays are for hands-on STEM education! Children will work together during in-person workshops and learn with other students in a hands-on classroom setting with educators here at MSC. Our engaging workshops are for students ages 5-7. Friday Workshops are $19.95 per participant and include admission to the science center’s exhibit halls.
Date: Friday, April 16 Time: 10:30am Ages: 5–7 Capacity: 12 students Length: 45 minutes Become a plant scientist! Dig in as you take a closer look at the different parts of a plant and experiment to discover how they work.
Date: Friday, April 23 Time: 10:30am Ages: 5–7 Capacity: 12 students Length: 45 minutes Follow the scientific process to explore simple chemical reactions using a colorful cabbage juice indicator. Then apply your new knowledge of acids and bases to launch a rocket.
The Sound of Science
Date: Friday, April 30 Time: 10:30am Ages: 5–7 Capacity: 12 Length: 45 Minutes Explore how we observe and study sound and make our own instruments. Then continue your science musical with some engineering, chemistry, and biology activities.
Date: Friday, May 7 Time: 10:30am Ages: 5 – 7 Capacity: 12 Length: 45 Minutes Robots are all around us. Explore the world of robotics by learning how to speak their language. Create your own instructions to lead a robot through a maze and attempt to follow a code given to you by a fellow programmer.
Date: Friday, May 14 Time: 10:30am Ages: 5 – 7 Capacity: 12 Length: 45 Minutes Investigate the difference between solids and liquids. Conduct an investigation on slime’s state of matter while preparing a chemical slime sample.
Date: Friday, May 21 Time: 10:30am Ages: 5 – 7 Capacity: 12 Length: 45 Minutes The weather is getting warmer; plants are starting to flower and you might see young animals in your neighborhood. Explore the Springtime by germinating seeds and examining different fruits and vegetables. Engineer a stand to help a plant grow tall and create a bird feeder to hang outside.
Date: Friday, May 28 Time: 10:30am Ages: 5 – 7 Capacity: 12 Length: 45 Minutes Use ciphers, Morse code, and more to unlock a scrumptious secret. Become a taste bud hero and break the code hiding the recipe for the world’s best chocolate.

Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat hours is the science center open for Friday Workshops?
MSC will be open from 10am – 4pm for Friday Workshops. The Shed and SciLab will be open from 12pm – 4pm. Certain exhibit areas will be intermittently closed throughout the day for cleaning. View MSC’s full hours here.
No. Due to safety and health reasons, non-participants will not be permitted to classroom spaces to ensure proper social distancing.
Yes. All MSC guests must wear a mask for the duration of their visit. This includes workshops as well as in the exhibits. Guests not wearing a mask will be asked to leave.
