Dr. H. Bentley Glass Scholarship

Curelle graduated as an International Baccalaureate Full Diploma Candidate from Baltimore City College.

Beyond the time she applied achieving noteworthy success in this challenging academic track, she played for the varsity tennis team and worked as an assistant dance instructor with young dancers at a studio outside of school. Curelle strove to accomplish positive change in her community while she served in the Agoge Project afterschool program.

Participating as Johns Hopkins University SARE Scholar, she experienced working on STEM research in college labs which provided her with inspiration to pursue a major in biochemistry at the University of Scranton, her first choice to attend from among the host of universities who offered her a place to pursue her college career.

Tylah Allen attended the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute where she performed at top levels in a course of study dominated by Honors or Advanced Placement classes. Family and faith have guided her past significant life challenges. Becoming a Junior Lady at church allowed her to serve the community. Covid and quarantining cost her 35 days of attendance in 10th grade. Her final grades that year and subsequent performance testify to her high ability, determination, and focus. Tylah is continuing her achievement and success at Louisiana State University.

Jazmine Barnes attended Bard High School Early College in Baltimore where she is took a college-level course-load which offered an Associate’s degree from Bard College as she graduated. She gained acceptance at Lincoln University and Frostburg State University with plans to major in nursing. Jazmine appeared on the Honor Roll at school and was an active member of the National Honor Society.

Nayev graduated high school from Baltimore City College with a GPA of 5.43 and plans to major in Earth and Ocean Sciences. She has interned with the American Chemical Society, conducted research at Johns Hopkins University through the Women in Science and Engineering Program, and studied at the National Aquarium as a Henry Hall Fellow. At the time, Nayev was an active volunteer at the Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter (BARCS).

Omobolade Odedoyin graduated in 2019 with a cumulative weighted GPA of 4.33. He will attend Johns Hopkins University in the fall and plans to study both neuroscience and global healthcare policy. While at Poly, Omobolade was a research student and laboratory aide at the JHU School of Medicine. He presented the results of his studies at the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium and received a number of awards for his STEM-related work. He is a member of the National Honor Society and plays varsity soccer. As a son of immigrant parents from Nigeria, he has deep concern for that country’s relatively poor healthcare infrastructure. He writes that he wants to see himself as an “active member for positive change in West Africa” and wishes to “create an organization that partners with these nations’ governments [. . .] to provide top quality medical care to a population in desperate need.”
