Who can volunteer at the Maryland Science Center?
Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older. We welcome volunteers of all interests, backgrounds, and experience although an interest in science and education is helpful. Volunteers should be outgoing, friendly, and enjoy interacting with Maryland Science Center visitors and staff.
What do Maryland Science Center volunteers do?
Volunteer positions are offered in nearly every department at the Maryland Science Center. Volunteers can work alongside staff members on exhibit floors or behind the scenes! There are opportunities in the following departments: Development, Education, Exhibits, Finance, Guest Services, IMAX/Planetarium, Information Systems, Marketing, SpaceLink/TerraLink, SciLab.
*The Maryland Science Center Volunteer Program is continually growing and changing. Opportunities in other departments may be available and suggestions are always welcome. Please contact the Volunteer Department for information on current opportunities.

When can I volunteer?
Most volunteer positions require at least one 4-hour shift per month for at least three months. Science Store Clerks, Science Educators, and Bus Greeters are asked to volunteer at least one 4-hour shift per week. Seasonal, promotional, and special events positions are also available.
Is training provided?
All volunteers will attend a brief orientation session provided by the Volunteer Coordinator. Job-related training will be provided by Science Center staff from the department where the volunteer is working.
What are the benefits of being a Maryland Science Center volunteer?
All active volunteers receive free membership to the Maryland Science Center at the Adventurer level, free parking while volunteering, discounts in Elements Café and the Science Store, and invitations to special events. Volunteers will know what it means to be part of the Maryland Science Center family. It is a great place to share your time, talents, and experience!
