Sewing Production Volunteer

Running an early childhood space takes a great amount of support as children love to explore, rebuild, and deconstruct as they learn. Help behind the scenes in our Kids’ Room exhibit to repair, design, and create magical costumes, exhibits, and toys that our youngest guests will use to learn and play.

This opportunity is suitable for an eligible-aged volunteer that is seeking any length of volunteering time from three months to indefinitely. All skills are welcome.


  • Practical knowledge of sewing techniques – using a sewing machine, hand sewing, etc. – as well as the use of different materials – fabrics, upholstery, etc.
  • Ability to design and craft new pieces based on the needs of the exhibit space or an upcoming program
  • Additional crafting skills beneficial

Required Skills:

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Organized
  • Willingness to follow directions and adhere to safety guidelines

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional light lifting
  • Willing to get messy!
  • Comfortable climbing ladders a plus

4-hour shifts are available Wednesday-Sunday, but also flexible to the needs of the projects.

Minimum Commitment:

Two consistent 4-hour shifts per month, for a minimum of three months. A willingness to volunteer for additional hours is always welcome!
