You’ll certainly get a jolt out of this! Discover the chemistry and learn about the flow of electricity in this month’s electroetching and electroplating workshop. Use these processes to personalize metal plates through two complimentary methods. Electroetch your copper or brass by using charged electrons in a solution to create grooves in your plate. Then, enhance your design by harnessing those electrons to electroplate your piece. What are the practical applications for this workshop and for electorplating and etching knowhow you ask? Electroetching and plating can be used to craft original pieces of jewelry — necklace and bracelet charms, rings, earrings, and more — to make metal signs or plaques, to personalize metal mugs and cups, to create unique works of art, and more.
Cost is $20 per person and includes all supplies and museum admission. There is no member discount for our workshop programs. The workshop is designed for ages 10 and up. Anyone under 16 must participate with an adult, who must also register.
