Visit our altcar kiosk at the Maryland Science Center. Sign-up with assistance from an altcar representative and drive an electric vehicle today. All drivers must present a credit card, valid U.S. drivers license, and personal automobile insurance. Drivers must be at least 21 years old and have a clean driving record. Rental rates are $14.50 an hour

Become a member of this green car-sharing network. Benefits include free fuel (or electricity in this case), maintenance, and insurance. Altcar’s car-sharing network is the first in the United States to offer all electric lithium-ion battery powered vehicles. Since the vehicles are shared, the cost is spread out among members, allowing you to save money and save the environment. The Car
The altcar fleet consists of electric vehicles that are 100% powered by electrically charged lithium-ion battery technology. This means there is no need to ever “fill the tank”, the cars run on regular household current and recharge at andy standard outlet. Because altcar vehicles are completely electric they do not emit any harmful emission making the air cleaner for you and your family. Cars in the altcar fleet include air conditioning and heating, standard safety equipment found on gas powered vehicles, and are four door hatchback vehicles that comfortably fit four passengers and cargo.
The electric car being used in the science center’s Altcar program is the Maya 300. The Maya-300’s advanced lithium ion battery uses separator film developed by ExxonMobil that significantly enhances the power, safety, strength and reliability of the lithium ion battery. The Program
The altcar program consists of the Maya 300 manufactured by electrovaya and featuring battery technology enhanced by ExxonMobil. This unique collaboration allows the Maryland Science Center to be the first to deploy a 100% electric car rental and car sharing program in the United States and represents a unique chance for the public to see and sample new and advancing technologies in real world settings and demonstrating real world applications.
