What is the location of Camp MSC?
Camp MSC is held at the Maryland Science Center. We are located at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor at the intersection of Light Street and Key Highway. Our physical address is 601 Light Street, Baltimore, MD 21230.
Is there a separate entrance and pickup area for Camp MSC participants?
Yes, please use the Constellation Energy Learning Entrance located on the Key Highway side of the building. Do not use the Main Harborside Entrance. Drop off and pickup for all programs, including Extended Care happen at the Key Highway Entrance.
Can I send my own lunch with my camper(s)?
Yes, but please send any food in an insulated container with a cold pack if items are perishable or send only non-perishable items. We cannot provide refrigeration.
If I send lunch can I get a discount on the overall fee?
Sorry, no. For our full day camp programs to include lunch and keep our rates affordable, we must plan on receiving the full day camp fee from each participant as stated.
My camper has food allergies – what should I do?
Our menu is an attempt to avoid most common food allergies like nuts and strawberries, but if there are concerns you should consider sending lunch on the days when the lunch item on the menu is a concern. PLEASE REMEMBER TO INDICATE ANY AND ALL ALLERGIES ON THE HEALTH FORM.
What should my camper wear?
Every camp participant receives a Camp MSC T-shirt which we encourage campers to wear as often as possible. For the majority of the camp experience, campers will be utilizing spaces within the Maryland Science Center – please dress for indoor, air conditioned activities. Campers can expect to be active – shorts and a T-shirt and athletic footwear are ideal. Please refrain from sending campers in flip-flops. At Camp MSC, we’re not afraid to get messy! We suggest that washable clothing items be the rule – we can’t be responsible for that green slime stain on your camper’s new birthday outfit.
Can I send medications in with my camper?
As a general rule, no. However, we understand that some people regularly take maintenance medications or have other needs. Please phone the Camp Director to discuss your needs at 410-545-2982. A reminder that we cannot administer medications – if the Camp Director can accommodate your needs your camper will be required to self-administer.
What if my camper is sick during the camp session and cannot attend?
Every attempt will be made to reschedule your camper into other available sessions but space and time limits mean that this may not be possible. Please note that we cannot offer refunds for sessions not attended for whatever reason.
I signed up for Extended Care – what happens if I can’t get to the Maryland Science Center by the 6:00 p.m. pickup deadline?
A member of the Camp MSC staff will be required to wait with your camper until you or a designated person on your Extended Care Registration Form arrives to retrieve your camper. As this means that staff will remain past the normal operating hours you will be charged an additional fee of $30 for every 15 minutes or any portion thereof that you are late past 6:00 p.m.
Can I sign up for only part of Extended Care?
Sorry, no. Extended Care is a service provided for campers who sign up and make payment in advance. The fee is a blanket fee to cover early drop off and evening pickup. You may choose to use the service however you wish during your camper’s session(s) but there will be no pro-rated adjustment based on utilization.
What if I did not sign up for Extended Care but I am late for the 4:00 p.m. pickup?
Please make arrangements to be on time to pick up your camper(s) when the program ends. Beginning at 4:05 p.m., any campers who have not been picked up will automatically be sent to the Extended Care program and automatically charged a drop-in rate of $30 per day or any part thereof. Anyone who wishes to take advantage of the drop-in rate should call the Camp Office to notify staff, especially if they know ahead of time that they will miss the 4:00 p.m. deadline. Once a camper has transitioned to Extended Care, the camper is free to stay in the program until the 6:00 p.m. pickup deadline.
Is snack served in Extended Care?
Yes, a light snack and a drink will be served during the afternoon/evening portion of Extended Care. We serve healthy snacks and drinks, not chips and soda. If there are concerns that food allergies may be an issue, please feel free to send your own snacks with your campers. PLEASE REMEMBER TO INDICATE ANY AND ALL ALLERGIES ON THE HEALTH FORM.
