Outstanding Young Scientist and Outstanding Young Engineer Awards

Congratulations to the 2012 Award Recipients

2012 Outstanding Young Scientist

scientist

Dr. Brice Menard

Department of Physics and Astronomy, Johns Hopkins University

Dr. Menard has made very significant contributions to a number of questions in cosmology, the most significant and that which warrants the recognition of this prize is his recent discovery of vast stores of interstellar dust in intergalactic space, a discovery that has significant implications for the evolution of galaxies and for observations of just about every type of extragalactic object.

2012 Outstanding Young Engineer

scientist

Dr. Jordan Green

Department of Biomedical Engineering, Johns Hopkins University

Dr. Green has integrated engineering, biology, chemistry and materials science to create synthetic biodegradable nanoparticles that can safely and effectively deliver nucleic acids into human cells. This is a transformative technology, and Dr. Green has shown wide-ranging applications for it from regenerative medicine to treating diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, he is interested in the commercialization and translation of the technologies that he develops, and he collaborates with Hopkins clinicians and started a Maryland biotechnology company to better reach these translational goals.
