THE ALPS AT MARYLAND SCIENCE CENTER WINS INTERNATIONAL AWARD
IMAX Film Named "Best Cinematography" and "Best Special Achievement"

The Alps, the current IMAX feature playing at the Maryland Science Center, has been honored with the 2007 Giant Screen Cinema Association's awards for "Best Cinematography" and "Best Special Achievement in Film." The film is shown daily in the St. John Properties IMAX Theater.

In The Alps, audiences will be captivated by the visual storytelling and stunning cinematography as American mountain climber John Harlin III conquers the Eiger North Face–one of the world's most daunting peaks and the same mountain where his father died 40 years earlier. The film guides audiences through a treacherous journey to the top of the world, allowing them to experience the beauty of sheer rock-and-ice walls and the dizzying heights of the Alps, take a thrilling ride on the high-altitude Glacier Express train and feel the exhilaration of bungee jumping off Verzasca Dam.

Every step in the film–from the first carefully placed foothold through the triumphant ascent to the summit is enhanced by the mountains of sound created by award-winning composer Steve Wood's collaboration with English rock group, Queen.

Admission to The Alps can be purchased as part of admission to the Maryland Science Center.

The Maryland Science Center is located at 601 Light Street at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. For information and tickets, visit www.marylandsciencecenter.org or call the 24-hour Information Line at 410-685-5225, TDD: 410-962-0223.
