MAY 17 2007 For more information: Todd Scott - Himmelrich, Inc. Maryland Science Center to Host Body Worlds 2 The Maryland Science Center will host Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS 2: The Anatomical Exhibition of Real Human Bodies starting February 2, 2008, for a limited engagement, announced Senior Director of Marketing Christopher Cropper. BODY WORLDS is the original and acclaimed exhibition of real human bodies that have been preserved through Plastination. The exhibition has attracted more than 22 million visitors worldwide and was created by German anatomist and physician, Dr. Gunther von Hagens. BODY WORLDS 2 displays the anatomy, physiology, and effects of lifestyle choices on the human body through the scientific and enlightening display of whole bodies, individual organs and transparent body slices. The specimens on display were preserved through Plastination, the revolutionary preservation process invented by Dr. von Hagens in 1977. Plastination replaces fluids and fat in body specimens with plastics, polymers, and epoxy resins that harden, after curing, making it possible to permanently preserve individual anatomical structures without the use of glass barriers or formaldehyde. Plastination allows for the presentation of the body to the public in a way that was previously impossible. The specimens used in the exhibition stem from the body donation program that Dr. von Hagens established in 1983. The program is now managed by his Heidelberg, Germany based, Institute for Plastination, which was founded in 1993. Maryland Science Center staff will be present in the BODY WORLDS exhibition to provide information to visitors. The Maryland Science CEnter will also develop programs and events related to the exhibition that deal with specific issues and topics in life science. The Maryland Science Center at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is visited by more than 550,000 people each year. Popular exhibits include: Dinosaur Mysteries which features more than a dozen full-size dinosaurs and interactive paleontology activities, an exploration of the day in the life of the human body in Your Body: The Inside Story, and add... dozens of interactive experiments in Newton’s Alley. Other popular attractions in the museum include the Kids Room, the five-story St. John Properties IMAX Theater, and the world-famous Davis Planetarium.
