Beginning in June, the Maryland Science Center's Camp MSC will offer a variety of full-day and half-day learning opportunities for children ages 4-13, augmenting an already exciting selection of summer experiences with 11 new programs. Camp MSC includes fun and educational week-long, interactive experiences for children to explore science topics like space, forensics, wildlife and the human body. Full-day programs include lunch, a field trip, and daily extended care hours, including ealry drop-off and late pick-up, to make Camp MSC convenient for parents.

Half-Day Programming
Four new half-day programs for campers age 4-6 will make their debut at CAMP MSC this summer including Step Right up!: Science of the Circus, where campers willl get firsthand experience with their favortie circus acts. From tightrope walking to juggling and the flying trapeze, children will learn how circus performers perfect their craft. Also new for 2008 is Ready, Set, Play!, an interactive camp that lets children ages 6-7 discover the science behind the toys they play with every day. Campers will feel the forces that keep a top moving, perform experiments to see what keeps a toy car in motion and look inside battery-powered toys to see what makes them work before putting them back together.

Inspiried by the popular books by Eric Carle, Going Buggy returns in 2008 to let campers explore the crazy critters who live in our backyards, including fireflies, caterpillars, ladybugs and beetles. Campers will conduct live insect inspections, participate in movement activities and create insect art to discover what makes every bug unique.

For children ages 7-13, Camp MSC includes fun full-day programs with lunch and field trips. Campers can investigate capers at the Maryland Science Center in two new detective whodunit programs, Curious Science Investigators I: Mysteries Everywhere and Curious Science Investigators II: Behind the Scenes. In daily staged mysteries, campers ages 9-10 will discover how evidence is located, identified and processed while learning how to gather testimony from potential witnesses to solve capers at the museum. Curious Science Investigators II: Behind the Scenes also includes daily backstage views of the Maryland Science Center where visitors rarely go, a field trip to a real crime lab and a visit with crime lab investigators. Campers in Curious Science Investigators I: Mysteries Everywhere will visit the International Spy Museum in Washingotn, D.C.

They will also evaluate the current health of the Chesapeake bay, and design experiemnts with robotics using the basics of engineering. Campers will also explore how their interests in earth, space, and biological sciences can translate into career opportunities. th last day of the ession will include a visit to university laboratories to see working science in action.
