The Magic of Flight

The thrill of flight and jet aircraft technology graces the big screen with a film that balances the excitement of a Blue Angels air show with the science and history of flight.
The Magic of Flight, narrated by Tom Selleck, is more than the story of machines, it is the story of human potential and the importance of training and performance. Steering from earlier flight ventures to modern aviation, audiences are introduced to high-performance jets. The impressive skill of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron is one of the most compelling aspects of the film.
Viewers witness a Blue Angels’ practice session where pilots repeat and refine technical maneuvers. For a Blue Angels pilot in his F/A-18 aircraft, controlled movements of one-eighth inch can be the difference between flight and freefall. An air show performance features the team’s most famous maneuvers, such as the classic delta formation and the vertical roll.
The film includes interviews with Blue Angels pilots and champion aerobatic pilots Sean Tucker and Patty Wagstaff. The maneuvers demonstrated by the “Blues” and aerobatic pilots Tucker and Wagstaff are physically demanding and we see how they train their bodies to adapt to the stress of G-forces.
