Summer of Service During the summer the Maryland Science Center offers twenty (20) high school students the opportunity to serve along side the staff of the Maryland Science Center in its Summer of Service program. High school students can build their resume, obtain additional job skills, learn some fascinating things, and have fun. Positions are available for volunteers to serve as Science Demonstrators, Dinosaur Mysteries Assistants, Science Store Clerks, Traveling Exhibit Assistants, Human Body Assistants, IMAX Theater Ushers, SpaceLink Assistants, TerraLink Assistants, Information Technology Assistants, Kids Room Assistants, and Planetarium Assistants. All program participants must be at least 14 years old, commit to at least twenty (20) hours of service a week, and attend all orientation and training sessions. All program participants will be trained and supervised by the staff of the Maryland Science Center. The close interaction with the Science Center's staff will give all participants the chance to gain invaluable experience as well as a better understanding of how things work behind the scenes at the Maryland Science Center. Deadline for applications is April 30, 2007. Training for the Summer of Service program will begin mid June and all training will be either in the evening or on the weekend. The Summer of Science program will run from June 25, 2007 - August 10, 2007. For an application, please contact the Volunteer Office at 410-545-5894. Fall/Spring Weekend Service Program The Fall/Spring Weekend Service program is for high school students who would like to continue serving in their community as well as for students who would like to complete all or some of their Maryland High School service requirements during the school year instead of during the summer. The Fall/Spring Weekend Service program runs from October to May. All program participants must be at least 14 years old, serve one 5-hour shift per weekend for eight weeks, and attend all orientation and training sessions.
