Who can volunteer at the Maryland Science Center
Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older. We welcome volunteers of all interests, backgrounds, and experience although an interest in science and education is helpful. Volunteers should be outgoing, friendly, and enjoy interacting with Maryland Science Center visitors and staff.

What do Maryland Science Center volunteers do?
Volunteer positions are offered in nearly every department at the Maryland Science Center. Volunteers can work alongside staff members on exhibit floors or behind the scenes! There are opportunities in the following departments:BodyLink, Development, Education, Exhibits, Finance, Guest Services, IMAX/Planetarium, Information Systems, Marketing, SpaceLink/TerraLink, WetLab

When can I volunteer?
Most volunteer positions require at least one 4-hour shift per month for at least three months. Science Store Clerks, Science Educators, and Bus Greeters are asked to volunteer at least one 4-hour shift per week. Seasonal, promotional, and special events positions are also available.

Is training provided?
All volunteers will attend a brief orientation session provided by the Volunteer Coordinator. Job-related training will be provided by Science Center staff from the department where the volunteer is working.

What are the benefits of being a Maryland Science Center volunteer ?
All active volunteers receive free membership to the Maryland Science Center at the Adventurer level, free parking while volunteering, discounts in Beakers Café and the Science Store, and invitations to special events. Volunteers will know what it means to be part of the Maryland Science Center family. It is a great place to share your time, talents, and experience!

How do I apply?
Prospective volunteers should print the Volunteer Application and return it to the Volunteer Department by mail or fax: Volunteer Department; 601 Light St; Baltimore, MD 21230; 410-545-5974.

Once your application is received you will be contacted for an informal interview and tour of the Science Center to determine a suitable volunteer position. For any questions, or to request more information about a specific volunteer opportunity please call the Volunteer Department at 410-545-5982 or email jburke@marylandsciencecenter.org.
