Camp MSC Assistant

Camp MSC Volunteers serve as assistants to the Maryland Science Center’s Camp MSC instructor and staff. Each volunteer will be assigned to a specific summer camp session for the entire week. Volunteers will help the staff set-up and breakdown activities, make transitions between activities, and interact with small groups of students. Volunteers must be flexible, creative, able to follow directions, and comfortable interacting with students between the ages of 4 and 12.

Duties:

Volunteers will work in the summer camp program. Each volunteer will be assigned to a specific summer camp program for the entire week. Volunteers will help the instructor set-up and breakdown activities, make transitions between activities, and interact with small groups of students.

Skills:

Volunteers must be flexible, creative, able to follow directions, and comfortable interacting with students between the ages of 4 and 12.

Volunteers must have completed their freshman year of high school and be available for the entire week. Students may volunteer for more than one week.

Training:

Provided by Camp MSC staff.

How do I apply?

To register, send the completed Volunteer Registration Form to: Jo Ann Bell, Maryland Science Center, 601 Light Street, Baltimore, MD 21230, or email to jbell@marylandsciencecenter.org.

Spaces are limited, so please submit all forms by June 1, 2011. There are 5 camp sessions. You may sign up for more than one session, but you must be available for the entire 5-day session for each week you register. You will receive a phone call to schedule a brief interview and a letter stating whether or not you have been accepted. Once accepted it is mandatory to attend one of three orientation sessions where you will receive important information and a confirmation of dates, times, and responsibilities.

What your parents/guardians need to know

The Maryland Science Center will be responsible for you from the time you check in with the camp instructor until you are picked up in the evening. You will not be permitted to leave the building unless the trip is approved by the Camp Instructor and supervised by a staff member.
