Diabetes–A Deeper Look

Over 24 million people in the United States have diabetes and the world is experiencing the fastest rise in cases ever.  Yet, only one third of people with diabetes have actually been diagnosed.    This important exhibition seeks to educate the public about a disease that is sure to impact nearly everyone whether it be directly or indirectly.  From a basic understanding of what diabetes is, to risk factors, to impact on our daily lives and the way diabetes effects our body directly, are all explained in a unique, visual, hands-on way.  See the Rappin’ Refrigerator with its video and music display warning refrigerator raiders about making the right food choice.  Try your skills at three exercise interactives to better understand how important exercise is to managing diabetes.  See the giant stream of sugar pour from a soda bottle to a measuring cup to illustrate the excessive levels of sugar in soda, cereal, bread, and many unexpected places.

Knowledge to Take With You

The exhibit ends with a look at the various treatments available today.  Learn about how insulin, glucose, and body weight strike an important balance.   See the research being done today to help better manage diabetes tomorrow.  And get answers to the question you have about diabetes.
