Whether you are inspired by the story you wish to tell, or the mechanical movement you envision, art and technical engineering will have to blend together for success in this competition!

Cardboard Automata entries will be voted on by guests visiting the Maryland Science Center on competition day. Awards and prizes will be given based on the following categories:

Most Scientifically Inspired

Awarded to the automaton design inspired by a famous scientist or scientific concept.

Mechanical Engineer Award

Awarded to the automaton design with the most awesome mechanisms.

Storyteller Award

Awarded to the automaton design with the most creative narrative.
