Join Us for September's Teachers’ Thursday In TerraLink Are you or your students hungry for new science fair projects to do, or are you looking for more relevant projects to connect to current research or to your own local area? The Maryland Science Center with support from NASA has created a "citizen science" project to compare our local ultraviolet radiation with predictions and with satellite data. Find out how you can connect with the network to share data and formulate intriguing questions about the Sun's effects on your daily life. In SpaceLink The Aurora Borealis, or Northern lights, is a bright greenish-white glow of light stretching across the northern night sky. Often, the Northern lights evolve from a peaceful green glow to bands of red, purple, and white light rapidly dancing across the sky. Sten Odenwald will "shed light" on this mysterious phenomenon with explanations and activities that you can take back to your classroom. You will also learn about the upcoming NASA Themis mission, which will likely confirm one of the two competing theories for explaining the formation or auroral substorms. In BodyLink Mary Rodgers, PT, Ph.D. of University of Maryland, Baltimore will introduce teachers to the latest news in muscle healing and bone work. Take your students beyond "the hip bone is connected to the thigh bone" with current research about how muscles and bones really work together. October is National Physical Therapy Month! To help us prepare, Dr. Rodgers will also be providing insight to teachers and counselors of students interested in careers in physical therapy.
