Part-time On-floor Education Staff

Energetic educators desired for fall employment!

Are you creative, willing to learn, and comfortable interacting with the general public?  If so, the Maryland Science Center is looking for you.  A variety of positions are available for individuals interested in spending their summer in a fast-paced, engaging environment.

Applicants must have completed at least one year of college coursework or comparable experience. Interest and/or coursework in science or education are encouraged. All applicants must be able to work both independently and as a part of a team.


Please specify which position you are applying for:

DIY Staff: Facilitate hands-on/DIY activities with guests in a makerspace environment. Applicants should have an interest in DIY/maker culture and experience working with children. Staff responsibilities include interacting with guests, supporting daily operation of the makerspace, and maintaining equipment and tools. Weekday and weekend opportunities exist.

Early Childhood Staff: Interact with children and their families as they learn through play, engage young visitors and their families with fun hands-on activities, and support the daily operation of the early childhood exhibit, including the care of classroom animals. Experience with young children in a group setting highly desired. Weekday and weekend opportunities exist, particular need on Fridays.

Science Educator: Engage visitors with a wide variety of hands-on science activities and demonstrations, and provide interactive interpretation for dinosaur exhibit. Applicants must be comfortable interacting with people of all ages and a quick learner. Weekday and weekend opportunities exist.

SciLab Staff: Support guests in completing experiments in a laboratory environment. Staff responsibilities include interacting with children, explaining a variety of chemistry and biology topics, and maintaining laboratory stocks. Primarily weekend availability, with some weekdays.


All positions require:

  • Experience working with the general public (including children)
  • Comfort in front of audiences and with large groups
  • Familiarity with science content, computers, and audio-visual equipment
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service to museum visitors
  • Ability to pass background check
