Summer Educator
Energetic educators desired for summer employment!
Are you creative, willing to learn, and comfortable interacting with the general public? If so, the Maryland Science Center is looking for you. A variety of positions are available for individuals interested in spending their summer in a fast-paced, engaging environment.
Applicants must have completed at least one year of college coursework or comparable experience. Interest and/or coursework in science or education are encouraged. All applicants must be able to work both independently and as a part of a team.
Public Programs Staff: Engage visitors on the floor with hands on science activities, demonstrations, and provide exhibit interpretation. Must be comfortable interacting with people of all ages and a quick learner. Additional staff needed with an interest in engaging visitors in activities that allow visitors to explore their creative side—tinkerers, artists, and creative hobbyists should apply.
Early Childhood Staff: Interact with children and their families as they visit the early childhood exhibit area. Staff responsibilities also includes conducting activities to enhance the experience provided by the exhibits and supporting the daily operation of the space. Requires experience with young children in a group setting.
Planetarium Operator: Present astronomy programs in our Digital Planetarium, operate and monitor computer and projection equipment, and manage crowds and physical space. Public speaking, knowledge/interest in astronomy and night sky, comfortable learning digital planetarium software and technology, and a keen eye for detail are all necessary skills.
All positions require:

Experience working with the general public (including children).

Comfort in front of audiences and with large groups.

Familiarity with science content, computers, and audio-visual equipment.
