Kids Room Events for December
The Maryland Science Center is closing out 2009 with a flurry of fun and educational activities in the Kids Room, including daily programs during school vacation. The Kids Room is an interactive learning center with over 50 innovative, age-appropriate programs that encourage children up to eight years old to discover and learn through hands-on play.

Imagination & Creation Exploration
Friday, December 4 and 18
3:00 p.m.
This activity is specially designed for children ages five through eight. Come and face a new I.C.E. challenge based on our monthly theme. Our theme for December is “sound.” Learn how vibrations make sound waves that travel through the air and how our ears are designed to capture these waves. Imagination & Creation Exploration activities are funded by the LEGO Children’s Fund
Infant and Toddler Activity

Special activity time, designed just for children up to 24 months and their adults. Come enjoy music, movement, stories, songs, and crafts with your little one.
Wiggle Wednesday

Special athletic time, designed just for children ages three through six and their adults. Come wiggle, squirm, and dance as we enjoy music, movement, stories, songs, and rhymes. A great opportunity to get some kid-friendly exercise and get those energetic kiddos moving.

Brr, It’s Cold Out There!

It’s cold out there! So bundle up and come join the Kids Room staff as we take a closer look at ice and snow. Make an icy painting or a rubbing of a snowflake and experiment with salt to see why it keeps the roads safe.
Red, Orange, Green and Blue
Tuesday, December 29

Join us as we explore the wonderful world of color and light. Mix and blend colors around and use what you’ve learned to make a colorful kaleidoscope
Green Science

Explore the science of evergreen trees - trees that stay green all winter long! Take a closer look at evergreens underneath our handheld microscope and make some one-of-a-kind green prints.
Five, Four, Three, Two, One…

We’re counting down to the New Years Eve ball drop! Learn about the force that allows the ball to drop and keeps us all down to Earth. Test the laws of gravity by creating a weeble wobble friend that won’t fall down.
Jingle, Jingle, Jingle

Use your ears and explore the holiday sounds as we experiment with some of our favorite musical instruments. Ring bells or shake tambourines and even try creating a musical instrument all your own.
The Kids Roomis free with paid admission to the Maryland Science Center. All children must be accompanied by a chaperone. All activities are designed for children up to eight years of age. All activities subject to change or cancellation without notice.
